Teddy Bears’ Picnic

imagesAFTERNOON Tree Planting at Eyreton Wood, Crosby at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday, 26th April 2015
We thought it would be good fun to combine a small tree planting with a Teddy Bears’ Picnic as the weather is getting more spring-like.

Now that the self-seeded sapling sycamore trees have been felled in our woodland at Eyreton, we would like to plant 60 mixed Hazel, Blackthorn, Sweet Chestnut, Sessile Oak and Wild Plum trees to grow into an understorey for the mature trees in the woodland.  This will provide nesting places for more birds and give future interest and increased biodiversity.  We will also be asking the children to help in picking up small sticks and  twigs to make into beetle banks, before we all enjoy our picnics and give out the prizes for the best teddy bears.

Please bring your favourite Teddy Bear and a picnic with you.  We will guarantee to have extra coffee, tea and cakes for everyone afterwards. Please wear warm clothes and stout shoes or boots.  If you could bring your own gardening gloves it would be a great help, and we will have plenty of spades available.

DIRECTIONS for Sunday 26th April at 2.30 p.m.:

Travelling from Douglas on the A1 main road towards St. Johns, at the crossroads at Crosby (300 yards before the Crosby Hotel) turn right into Eyreton Road and 30 yards on the right turn into Eyreton Lea.  Continue along until you come to Old School View on the left, where you can park.  At the top of Old School View is a passageway into Eyreton Wood.
