Tree Planting 31/1/16

Black poplars going in copyTree Planting at Poortown Road, near Peel at 11.00 a.m. on Sunday, 31st January 2016

We have a more challenging planting at Ballaneven Compost, Poortown Road.  We will be planting 200 trees as a new mixed hedge on top of the sod bank alongside the driveway, so sure-footed planters will be very welcome.  It is not as bad as I have made it seem, as the bank is easy to get on to.

We will be meeting at 11.00 a.m. and guarantee to have coffee, tea and cakes for everyone afterwards. Please wear warm clothes and stout shoes or Wellington boots would be sensible after all the recent rain.  If you could bring your own gardening gloves it would be a great help, and we will have plenty of spades available.

DIRECTIONS for Sunday 31st January at 11.00 a.m.:

Travelling from Douglas on the A1 main road towards St. Johns, at the Ballacraine traffic lights turn sharp RIGHT on to the A3 road towards Kirk Michael and Ramsey. After about one mile, at Blake’s Bridge turn LEFT on to the A20 Poortown Road towards Peel.  After about 100 yards you will see the entrance to Tynwald Mills on your left, but continue on for several more yards until on the RIGHT you will see the concrete driveway entrance to Ballaneven Compost.  There is a sign saying “Firewood for Sale”. Continue up the drive until you come to the yard, where we can park.
